NASIONAL—Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan
Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today agreed to appoint Tambun
Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister of
Malaysia.

Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin in a statement today said the appointment of
Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman was in line with Article 40(2)(a) and Article
43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.
It was after His Majesty refined the views of
the Malay Rulers who agreed to attend the Special Discussion of the Malay
Rulers at Istana Negara today to make the best decision for the interests and
well-being of the country and the people, he said, Bernama reported.
The Ceremony of Awarding the Appointment
Document and the Ceremony of Taking the Oath of Office and Loyalty as well as
the Oath of Secrecy as Prime Minister will take place at 5pm at the National
Palace today.
Ahmad Fadil said at a special discussion
session chaired by Al-Sultan Abdullah starting at 11 that morning, His Majesty
agreed to ask the Malay Rulers about the process of appointing a new Prime
Minister following the 15th General Election (GE15), 19 November last.
Among those who left for the special
discussion were the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan
of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Sultan of Kedah Al Aminul Karim
Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah,
the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Almarhum Tuanku
Munawir and Sultan Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.
Also leaving are the Regent of Pahang Tengku
Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah and the Viceroy of Perlis Tuanku
Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
"Seri Paduka Binda reminds all parties
that the winners do not win all and the losers do not lose all.
"Therefore, like a frog passing by,
kiambang linked, reach out to each other to close ranks again among all members
of the Dewan Rakyat for the sake of the future of our beloved country,"
said Datuk Pengeloa Bijaya Diraja.
According to Ahmad Fadil, His Majesty gave a
message to the Prime Minister and the new government that will be formed to
take the rice official which is "the more full the more submissive".
"The fact is, the common people should
not be burdened with endless political turmoil when the country needs a stable
government to boost the economic landscape and development of the
country," he said.
His Majesty, according to Ahmad Fadil, also
reminded the Members of the House of Representatives who have been elected by
the people to show solidarity by giving priority, high commitment and the best
service to the people.
"Seri Paduka Baginda emphasized that this
country is like an inheritance where the leaders are its trustees. This
heritage needs to be taken care of because it will be inherited by the younger
generation who will lead the country to the pinnacle of success," he said.
Ahmad Fadil said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong
expressed his utmost appreciation for the continued support of the Malay Rulers
in fulfilling His Majesty's responsibilities as a Constitutional Ruler based on
the supremacy of the Federal Constitution and the Rule of Law.
According to Datuk Pengelola Dirajaya, the
Malay Rulers also support His Majesty's position for the formation of a stable
government as soon as possible following GE15 through a careful and thorough
process and in-depth observation.
"His Majesty expressed his gratitude to
Allah SWT and called on the people to continue to be steadfast and calm and
pray together that the country will always be blessed, blessed and under the
protection of Allah SWT, away from any disaster and calamity," he said.
The results of the GE15 on 19 November saw
Parliament hung when no coalition of political parties managed to get a simple
majority to form a government.
In the GE, Pakatan Harapan won 82 seats,
Perikatan Nasional (73), Barisan Nasional (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (23),
Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six), Warisan (three), Bebas (two) and Parti Bangsa
Malaysia and Social Democratic Welfare Party one each.
