The passenger bus service from Kuching to Singkawang in Kalimantan will operate next year, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin

BIAWAK-Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that the trip, which takes 5 hours, will go through the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Biawak in Lundu.  

"There is potential for both countries to start this service.  

"It will increase economic and tourism activities between Singkawang and Sarawak.  

"Based on Immigration statistics, the number of users entering and exiting Biawak ICQS is approximately the same as the number at Tebedu ICQS," he said at a press conference at the Lundu District Office today.

Lee who made an official visit to ICQS Biawak today first listened to briefings from various agencies involved specifically related to the proposal.
  

He added that all matters to start this service are actively being done, including travel permit applications.  

"This process will be worked on as soon as possible, we want to start the service as soon as possible. 

"Hopefully it will be able to operate before the Hari Raya Puasa celebration in April this year," he said.

Lee said again, the bus companies from both sides will discuss the frequency of trips per week and the total fare.
